Conference Notes

Going into the meeting I went in with an open mind and my pen and paper ready. Dr. Archibald made a few corrections to the paper. He also said to look at the discussion blog and think about using one of those to start my paper. He mentioned using an anecdote to open my paper. Also rearranging some of the paragraphs, where to add more information and go from there.

Sources for the 3ResProj

What did you do first? As soon as I met with Dr Archibald and had a clear idea of where I was going to go with this paper I started looking for information on the internet. I had done some searching prior to the meeting as well as came up with a mind map to help me with the ideas I had.

What did you do next? My first search was using webmd.com, I thought that would be a great place to get information, as it is related to health. There was quite a lot of both sides of the crash dieting world.

What you found? The majority of the articles that I found on either webmd.com or health.com were all against crash dieting. I can use that in my paper a little bit, but focusing on the side of yes it is a good thing if done right makes me have to dig deeper for what I am looking for to support my view on this.

Why these sources are important for your paper? They are important because it will support my over all view that it is okay to crash diet as long as you do it in the right manner and not go after something that will just throw your health down the drain.

Why some might not be important at all? If they do not pertain to my topic then I just move on. I have a running list on my desktop so that when ever I see something on TV about this or online I can go into that document and type in the info and save it for when I update my mind map.

Conference Notes

I went into Dr. Archibald's office knowing pretty much what I was going to do with my research paper and wanted to see his view and if I was on the right path. The topic of crash dieting can be viewed in one of two ways. One is that you can go with the doctors and other sources stating that crash dieting is bad. Two would be to go against the normal thinking and say yes it is okay to do this and give your sources who show it is okay. I chose the second choice. I felt that there is a bigger range of yes' versus the nos. I put together a mind map yesterday and that pretty much fueled my ideas in the way of the second idea. While speaking with Dr. Archibald I asked questions about sources, and if I could include some information about the bad side since I am for the good of crash dieting. He said yes, and encouraged me to think outside of the norm. I plan to do more research and put the links and other things within my mind map. Start there and develop my ideas.
